Rally Report #3 | BMW RA 2023 National Rally News

News and highlights from Mr Wild and Ms Wonderful!

REVVING UP for West Virginia next month—Sept 14-17! We weren’t kidding in the previous issue when we said plans are coming together fast! Here’s the latest.

The rally schedule is up and running, with still more to come

A version of the daily schedule has been live on our website since last week, but we JUST added a lot of new listings! New content and revised details will be included as they are confirmed, so keep checking back. Dates and times will be fairly firm within a week or so, but we may add events, activities, etc, right up until rally time!

Highlights:

> Shuttles will run at key times to help you get from place to place.
> Food trucks will serve lunch and dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
> Live music Friday night with Silas Powell, a 5th generation picker from Salem, WV, who has become well known for his unique Monroe Mandolin style but also tears up the fiddle, guitar, and banjo!
> Live music Saturday night with one of Canaan Valley’s favorite bands, Soda Pop Gypsies.

Spicing up the lineup!

We teased you with a handful of speakers in Rally Report #2. Guess what—we’ve recently confirmed additional moto-rockstars and experts!

Shawn Thomas – This BMW Motorrad brand ambassador and ADV rockstar turns every learning experience into captivating edutainment! He’ll present two workshops:
> Do You Really Need That? – Packing tips for moto-adventures.
> What Does This Button Do? – An overview of the functions for various BMW electronics, past and present.

Louise Coleen Powers – In one session (Get This Thing Off Me!) from this BMW brand expert and moto world traveler, learn how to pick up a fallen motorcycle. In another (My Feet Don’t Reach!), she shares tips and tricks for vertically challenged riders.

Tamela Rich – An unique, interactive peek into moto-travel writing! OTL columnist and contributing editor will reveal how to tell a compelling travel story. You’ve been to lots of places, and seen and eaten lots of things… but now what? Learn how to turn your story into more than “First we went here, then we went there.” After the workshop, she will lead an optional ride to Seneca Rocks for lunch and help you write your post-ride report. Maybe you’ll get your story published in a future magazine!

Bob Henig – Bob is founder/owner of Bob’s Motorcycles, one of the largest, most respected BMW dealerships in North America. “Candid Conversations With a BMW Dealer” will be fascinating.

Drew Alexander – In “Motorcycle and Metaphysics,” Mr Wild himself explores the relationship between the motorcyclist and the machine.

Chris Parker – The editor of On The Level, the RA’s magazine published every two months, will explain how the magazine comes together each issue, including what kinds of stories and photographs the RA loves to publish (and the related guidelines for each). Chris will also unveil the new OTL archives on bmwra.org.
