1970s
Formed in March 1972, the BMW Riders Association got their groove on by celebrating the Type 247 airhead, attending regional gatherings and holding an annual national rally! It was where the cool cats hung out… right on!
1980s
The RA entered the 80s with air-cooled twins, but in 1983 with the introduction of the K-bike, things got really rad! Robert Hellman, beloved Editor Emeritus, began his two decade tenure as editor.
1990s
The last decade of the 20th century saw the dawn of the oilhead, BMW’s updated boxer plus a new alternative choice in showrooms, the Funduro single. The club highlighted the wins of BMW in racing, particularly in the Paris-Dakar Rally.
2000s
In the new millennium, BMW released the hexhead boxer, the RA mourned the passing of Robert Hellman and at the end of the decade Will Guyan came on as Editor-in-Chief.
2010s
Changes continue, both at BMW and OTL. The S 1000 RR and new six cylinder K bikes propel Motorrad to new heights, OTL sees color throughout its pages, and a changing of the guard with Jane Schluter as Editor-in-Chief in 2017.
