It has been a challenging month for the leadership of the BMW Riders Association, first with the departure of club President Matt DeWald and then the unexpected passing of long-time club member, board member, and newly-elected president Karen Jacobs. Throughout this period, current club Treasurer (and former club President) George Nyktas has provided a steadying hand and called the planned board meeting on Sunday, March 17.
In accordance with club bylaws, the remaining board members nominated and voted for Sibley Poland as club President and Eric Raterman as club Vice President. Both wish that the circumstances of their elections had been very different but both are experienced leaders and ready to carry the club forward.
In addition to continuing the daily business of the club (preparing for the Set My Soul Free national rally, managing charter club and individual memberships, maintaining the website and social media, overseeing production of On The Level, etc…) the board needs to fill two vacancies. In accordance with club bylaws, a committee has been formed to identify and interview suitable candidates and then report their findings to the board, who will then vote to fill the vacancies.
Rest assured that your BMW Riders Association is in good hands. We will continue to build upon the momentum we’ve created, have a great rally in September, and make Karen proud.
