So the question has been answered. Now the next question did the RA BOT forget that there was election because after I posted the question if the RA was going to have an election. The very next day, I get an email from the Chartered Club Coordinator notify clubs of an election. I have a response from the RA President and the information is on the website. The problem now is the day all this information is posted on the RA website is the same day that the election commences and nominees now have 30 day to respond if they wish to run for a RA BOT position. What happened to advance notification of this election to our membership that state the starting date of the election and the time lines for nominees to have their information into the RA? Most members will not receive their OTL’s until later in the month or they do not use the RA website. This leaves little or no time for a member to decide if they wish to run for a position, because the most of the 30 days are gone.

I waited over 3 weeks to see something from the RA President. Like normal he failed to reply back. Yes this a dead issue, but I will say to all veteran and service members that severed in country military thank you.

Wintzell’s Oyster House
Wintzell’s Oyster House has been serving seafood dishes to the Gulf Coast for over 70 years. Our famous oysters have earned us praise far and wide. Wintzell’s, a landmark on Dauphin Street for decades in Historic Mobile, Alabama. Known far and wide for its “Oyster—fried, stewed or nude,” Wintzell’s Oyster House was founded in 1938 by Oliver Wintzell. Through economic boom and bust Wintzell’s has been continuously at its original location on Lower Dauphin Street. Wintzell’s menu is comprised of an extensive selection of regional seafood favorites with our oysters being our trademark item. We pride ourselves on our seafood gumbo which has been recognized as Mobile’s best numerous times. We have something for everyone including USDA choice buckehead beef steaks, chicken, fish, and of course those oysters any way you want em…. fried, stewed or nude; and now charbroiled. If you have never been to a Bass Pro Shop store, each store decor is different from each other. The Bass Pro Shop in Spanish Fort, the theme is one that features Alabama Gulf coast outdoors. I have been in this store many different times and I spotted something different or a display that I have missed because there is so much going on. The Bass Pro Shop does have an attached restaurant called World Famous Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant. I eaten there many of times and there is no complaints about any meal that was served to me. The Bass Pro Shop can meet you demands from camping needs to getting a bit to eat or just going in sightseeing. The Bass Pro Shop is just located just minutes away from the Historic Blakeley State Park.

These Tent sites are near Flushing toilets and Showers. To reserve you space contact Historic Blakeley State Park at 251-626-5581 and mention that you are with BMW Club Veteran Riders International or guest of the club. National Naval Aviation Museum Ride

Fly high with an adventure at the National Naval Aviation Museum, one of the world’s largest aviation museums. Located aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola, this historic treasure boasts more than 150 beautifully restored aircraft, hands-on exhibits and more than 4,000 artifacts representing Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aviation. Watch the awe-inspiring Blue Angels at practice air shows from March through November, take a ride in a motion-based or Top Gun Air Combat simulator, have fun with the ultimate seven story giant screen movie experience in the IMAX Theatre and dine in the Cubi Bar Café, an exhibit itself. There are plenty of family-friendly ways to get the most out of quality time with the kids. Free admission is an added bonus, as well as free tours inside the Museum and on the flight line
With the Museum being located on a Military Installation expect the strict guidelines for motorcycles requires you be a certified, licensed motorcycle operator, carry insurance and have proof of registration. You must wear a helmet (even though it is not required by State Law), eye protection (also required by State Law), long pants, shirt, and boots (or full shoe – no sandals or bare feet). Depending on current changes to these guidelines a Hy-viz jacket or reflective vest maybe required to enter the installation.

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park, Mobile, Alabama
Everyone is invited to participate in the Gulf Coast Vietnam Veterans Salute honoring Vietnam & Vietnam Era Veterans who live along the Gulf Coast. This community celebration provides a unique opportunity for community groups, faith- based groups, and local businesses to express their respect & appreciation for Vietnam Veterans. The event offers many ways for Vietnam Veterans to enjoy connecting with their fellow Veterans. Civilians are encouraged to participate by lining Government Street in downtown Mobile to cheer for the Rolling Thunder Honor Ride Parade. After the Honor Ride Parade, the community is invited to join the Vietnam Veterans and their families for the opening ceremony and special activities at Battleship Memorial Park. This free celebration will be held in the area just outside the museum.

Reunion Tents: Special Tents for each branch of service will offer memorabilia displays & Veteran reunion activities. Message boards will help attendees contact friends and share information on upcoming reunions.

Resource Tent: The Resource Tent will provide information on VA & Vet Center Services, VA Cemetery benefits, and programs of interest to Vietnam Veterans. Key community groups will also share information on Veteran friendly activities.

Family Tent: Staff from VA’s Caregiver Support Program will provide information and special activities for families of Vietnam Veterans in the Family Tent.

Okaloosa County FL Vet Center (850) 651-1000
Bay County FL Vet Center (850) 522-6102

How to Help with the Event
Outreach: Download the event flyer and share it to encourage Vietnam and Vietnam Era Veterans to attend the celebration. Save the Date Flyer.

Cheering for the Honor Ride Parade: Civilians can help by recruiting community groups to line the parade route in downtown Mobile and cheer for the Veterans. The best viewing areas will be along Government Street between Virginia Street and the Bankhead Tunnel.

Honor Buses: Because of the number of Veterans expected to attend this event, parking is expected to be limited. Volunteers are needed to organize Honor Buses (similar to Honor Flights). The term “Honor Bus” refers to any vehicle transporting a group of four or more Vietnam & Vietnam Era Veterans to Battleship Park for the event (buses, vans, trucks, and cars). Sponsoring an Honor Bus provides an opportunity for community and faith-based groups to reach out to Vietnam Veterans who might not ordinarily participate in their group. Organizers may choose to arrange car pools, use church buses, or rent shuttle buses to bring Veterans to the event. More than just transportation, the Honor Bus provides camaraderie for Veterans en-route, and helps Veterans develop new friendships that can continue after the event. For bus availability or more information on bus sponsorship, check here*. You may also email Disabled American Veterans (DAV) at: al35cdr@davfrat.org

Volunteers: Many Veterans groups and community organizations across the Gulf Coast are seeking help with preparations for the event. Please contact your local Veteran Service Organizations to offer your assistance. In Mississippi you can also go online to the United Way of South MS Volunteer Center *www.unitedwaysm.org and click volunteer to learn more about ways you can serve at designated project sites. In Alabama contact Hands on South Alabama at *www.handsonsal.org.

Donations: Those wishing to make donations to support the event can contact VA Voluntary Service at (228) 523-5786 or the Battleship Foundation for details.
