His column is worth the price of membership alone….
dpryanSpectatorWelcome Mark, and good luck with your new ride!
dpryanSpectator
Thanks for the reply, I spoke with the folks at the resort and was told that the campsites were full.
Hi Bill, and welcome! Now, if I can borrow your thread for a minute…:D
This will be my first rally, too, and I’m interested in the resort saying that “campsites were full”. A question for the seasoned rally-goers out there: Does that mean the sites are “reserved” in some way?
I pre-registered and designated myself as camping at the rally, so I’m assuming I should be all set?
dpryanSpectatorSee you there Scott!
dpryanSpectatorWill do. This’ll be my first large rally and I’m definitely looking forward to it!
dpryanSpectatorWelcome Kenny. Sounds like you have some nice variety in the garage!
dpryanSpectatorPersonally, I like the fact that the rally page photo hasn’t generated page after page of wailing and gnashing of teeth π
Either we’re not very observant or we just don’t take such things too seriously π
Looking forward to meeting some of you folks at there!
dpryanSpectatorHello solohvs, and welcome. Glad the bike sorted itself out.
Hopefully it’s not something you’ll have to get TOO used to; I would expect any of these bikes, old or new, to handle most weather conditions that might arise (especially one with ‘GS’ at the end of its name!).
I’d be interested to hear what the dealer determines when you check in with them.
dpryanSpectatorHi George, and “welcome” from another northeasterner. I’m fairly new to this forum, too (just added a BMW to my garage in April), and I’ve already picked up some good info from some of the folks around here.
This summer will be my first formal rally. I can’t do both events, but I’ll probably give the nod to the RA in WV…. looking forward to meeting some of you there.
dpryanSpectatorYep, that would get the ol’ blood boiling for sure. Unfortunately, I’m not surprised that there are people out there who would feel “entitled” to move a bike to give themselves a closer parking spot.
I’m lucky enough to have 3 ‘Motorcycle Parking Only’ spots in the front of the common garage in the complex where I work.
Only once in 3 years have I seen a car parking in one of those spots. I ride in enough in the winter months so that, even then, the cars leave them alone.
dpryanSpectatorI didn’t exactly give it up, I just took a short break (for 25 years!) π
Got back on in ’04, and I try not to kick myself too much for ever having stopped.Like a lot of folks, I had other things going on back then and was being transferred around with work, etc. At some point, I sold my bike and it became something I “used to do”. I hear that sentiment a lot from folks around work who see me coming & going in my gear: “yeah, I used to have a bike, man! was that fun…. but then I gave it up because of and I’ve always regretted it”.
Then there are those that say, “man, I’d love to get a bike but I know I’d kill myself on one!”…. I always wonder about that one…
dpryanSpectatorI don’t ride in the city (Boston) often, but I’ve never had an issue at parking garages….. maybe I’ve been lucky and just picked the right ones?
In fact, I’ve had attendants steer me toward areas where I could tuck the bike within their eyesight, rather than take up a spot elsewhere…. Nice!
I agree with BMWPhreak; it’d be nice to be able to park anywhere that you’re not causing an obstruction.
dpryanSpectatorDecided to leave them alone on this morning’s commute, and what do you know? They cancel! Learn something every day…….:D
One of these times, I’ll tell you my “how I learned the sidestand retracts when you engage the clutch” story….. π
dpryanSpectatorInteresting…. I’m only in my 4th month of K75 ownership and I’ve noticed my turn signals seeming to self-cancel now and then….. but haven’t picked up on a discernible pattern. I’ll have to pay more attention!
The design of the turn signals is a bit awkward compared to my Concours, but we won’t go there…
dpryanSpectatorAnother new member type ….. north shore of MA.
A few familiar names/faces around here. Hi All.
