State highway 162 goes north east from Stoddard (on the river) through Coon Valley, Bangor, and to the Four Corners. This is a wonderful motorcycle road. The pavement is in very good shape. There are hills and valleys, some tight curves and some sweepers, and some nice, traditional, small WI towns. 162 crosses interstate 90 and highway 16 at Bangor so one could ride NE from Stoddard and then make time heading east to the rally (or where ever).
Find the town of Keshena and head north on Hwy 55. It’s a mildly amusing little road along the Wolf River. It’ll take you all the way to da U.P., where you can catch Hwy 2. From there, explore!
If anyone is coming from points west or southwest of WI, I can recommend some fine roads in the Northwestern and extreme Western parts of the state.

I drive that stretch of Hwy 55 a bunch of times every summer running my son up to Gardner Dam Scout camp where he works. The road is a blast! Lot’s of tar snakes though. Good idea to keep near legal speeds when heading through the Reservation too!
Thanks for the tip on Hwy. 55. It looks like I can ride Hwy. 22 all the way from Madison up to Keshena. It will defintely be fun to hit state highways all the way!
As a geography major I’d be remiss if I didn’t suggest these sites along the way:
Geographical center of Wisconsin
Geographical center of the northern hemisphere
And just getting halfway there:
With the rally in the U.P., many RA members and their guests will be riding through WI. There are a couple of threads in the Rally sections addressing routes and points of interest. However, if any one is looking for WI information, they may look here first. So, WI riders, please share any great roads, routes, or sites that our brothers and sisters from out-state may find fun.
