I’m a new BMW owner with a K1600GT and I’m looking to stretch my legs out on a twisty road safari into the deepest darkest Appalachia in a few weeks. I’m posting here to get recommendations on “don’t miss” roads, stops, eats, sights, and places to flop for a night. This will be a two day trip through the area of the Shenandoah Valley and off into a loop through West Virginia around Green Bank, Snowshoe, Seneca Rocks, etc. We probably won’t push too much farther south than Charlottesville VA on this trip as we’ll be returning back to the DC area before the weekend is over. Another trip is planned for June to get down to Deal’s Gap and the Smokey Mountains area that will be a week long romp.
Well, fortunately they equipped the bike with a Mr. Fusion power plant that makes enough juice for even a fat girl to dance in the twisties. It pulls like a locomotive in a power band about 5,000 RPM wide so even the hot snot crotch rockets were whining about the pea gravel in the turns as the reason they weren’t keeping up. We all had a ball on this trip and I’ve got a healthy list of sandbox type roads to play in on future trips. That area around Pocahontas Country/Snowshoe from down below Marlinton up through Elkins is pretty awesome. 219 is a long road with a mix of tight stuff and sweepers; 250 from 219 over the 28 above Green Bank; 66 between 219 and 28; and the list goes on and on….
