Hi,  I posted the 2015 events calendar for the Ohio region this afternoon.  Within a couple hours there were nearly 400 views.  Really?  I don’t believe it.   At least I have a hard time believing human eyes viewed that page that many times.  Do those counts include web crawlers or other automated web scanners?  I noticed another forum thread had reached over 1 million.

Mark, they are raw page fetches, and the big numbers come from crawlers and, especially, the spammers who are constantly (and uselessly) scanning the site and trying (and failing) to post spam.  The logs are literally filled with rejected account registrations that, in spite of the failure, the spambots then try to use to post spam.  So, I’m afraid that the views numbers are wildly inflated.  The club has access to other statistics that make it possible to see a much more realistic picture of the site access levels and patterns.
