Any of y’all use OpenID for registering on blogs and forums? I’m trying to see if it would be worth moving in that direction in the future. I’d like to know what your experiences are.

For those who don’t know what it is, it’s a simple scheme that establishes a credible online identity that you can access easily when registering at new sites. I don’t see it as a huge advantage but it’s interesting, and maybe more popular than I know. Sites have to add that as a registration method before you can use it.

It’s used by Yahoo, Facebook, WordPress, and lots of really big sites.

Is there an advantage to using this scheme?

Ideally it speeds up the registration process when you find a new site you want to post on. For your average Beemer guy posting on a handful of BMW forums it’s probably not a big time-saver, but if you’re constantly following new blogs and like to comment on them, you can get registered to do that with a click or two rather than filling out a form, waiting for the email, confirming that, etc. If they support OpenID, that is.
