We had a site visit this past week. The camping is fabulous. We met with Shawn at BMW Motorcycles of Birmingham. He is providing a preregistration incentive of one set of tires! If you preregister for the rally you will be in a drawing for this great prize. You don’t need to be present to win. How cool is that?

If you are on facebook like “2014 BMW RA Barber Rally”. In addition to postings here we’ll have pics, etc. on fb. John Landstrom of Blue Moon and Darryl Richman of Vintage BMWMOA are planning a large vintage presence at the Barber.

Had a great time at the Biltmore. Can I beg for more showers? That was the only negative.

Any notion of having track sessions?

Parade laps will be available but if you want to really use the track consider signing up for Keith Code’s California Superbike School which is scheduled to be at Barber the same weekend as our rally. Assuming CSS will coincide with the RA rally, it’s an incredible opportunity to ride BMW’s superbike, the S1000RR, on one of the most beautiful racetracks on the planet, with personal instruction Keith Code and his expert staff.

You’ll need to sign up and pay for the school separately, as the RA has no affiliation with CSS. You don’t have to be a fast rider or aspiring racer to take the school. It’s for anyone who wants to learn the fine art of cornering in the controlled environment of the racetrack. You don’t even need a bike or leathers, as CSS offers both for rent. Spots will be limited, so if you have any interest in exploring the safest superbike ever made around Barber’s great race facility, you’ll want to check the CSS and RA websites often and book a spot as soon as the dates are confirmed and CSS registration opens.

Thanks! Good to know that CSS will be there. I’ve taken their 2 day course before and plan on doing it again, so this may be a good opportunity for that. I just saw Keith 2 weeks ago at Laguna Seca. I may be trucking down to Barber with something a bit less tour worth, rather than the continent conquering GS.

In addition to all the vintage bikes at Barber a short ride will take you to the Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham. Visit a world of vintage aircraft, awesome engines, world-class models and legendary aviation pioneers when you explore the South’s aviation history. This is also the home to the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame. Interesting exhibits such as the Tuskegee Airmen, with three of their training aircraft, the Korean War exhibit as well as the B-25 recovered from Lake Murray in South Carolina.

Birmingham Downtown. Alabama’s largest city. A walking tour will take you to the place where hot peanuts have been sold for more than 100 years. Many civil rights sites and the location known as the “heaviest Corner on Earth”.
